Police are examining a newly received message as they continue the search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of U.S. television host Savannah Guthrie.
Authorities said on Friday that they received a message referencing Nancy Guthrie. As a result, investigators are reviewing the information to determine whether it is credible and relevant to the case.
Meanwhile, the development comes as the Guthrie family continues to seek proof that their mother is alive. It also follows the passing of an initial deadline mentioned in an alleged ransom message late Thursday.
Nancy Guthrie, 84, went missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona, last weekend. Police believe she was taken from the house, and authorities are offering a $50,000 reward for information that helps bring her back safely.
So far, officials have not released details about the message or confirmed who received it. At the same time, they have not said whether the message was sent to other recipients.
Earlier this week, Camron Guthrie said the family has had no direct contact with anyone claiming responsibility. Instead, he urged those involved to reach out and communicate with the family.
He said the family is urgently seeking confirmation of her safety and asked those involved to make contact.
As the case gained attention, it prompted federal support. President Donald Trump said investigators had identified possible leads and suggested authorities may learn more soon.
Meanwhile, police continue to review several messages connected to the investigation. One note, described as a possible ransom message, included payment deadlines on Thursday and Monday. However, officials declined to share further details.
On Thursday, authorities announced the arrest of a person linked to a fake ransom message. Therefore, investigators warned that false information delays the search and creates confusion.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators still believe Nancy Guthrie is alive. For now, he said, teams are working to identify those responsible and bring her home safely.
In recent days, law enforcement activity has increased around Guthrie’s neighborhood near the Santa Catalina Mountains. As part of the investigation, police have restricted access to the street to allow follow-up work.
Finally, officials urged the public to share credible information with the sheriff’s office. They also asked people to avoid spreading unverified claims as the investigation continues.
